is the latest addition to the inspirall ™ range of acute postoperative pain relief infusion kits and is specifically designed for use in arthroplasty procedures with an emphasis on hips and knees .does not require an introducer needle for its insertion . It is the new, easier, faster, more aseptic way to wound infusion catheter placement.

The traditional method of placing a wound infusion catheter relies on an introducer needle surrounded by an external peel-away sheath. The device is usually about twice the diameter of the hole required to introduce the catheter and this leads to problems including; postoperative leakage of fluid from the entry hole, catheter migration and greater exposure to the risk of infection at the site.
Furthermore, the passage of the introducer needle from outside the patient’s skin brings with it the risk of introducing infection into the wound itself as it cores through tissue.

Eliminating the need for peel-away catheter introducer needles reduces dramatically the risk of introducing infection into the wound.

The traditional introducer needle is unnecessarily large in diameter and causes more tissue trauma on insertion whilst increasing the risk of carrying latent skin bacteria into the wound cavity.

The surrounding peel-away sheath adds to tissue trauma and can be problematic when handling

is an infusion catheter and needle in one, both sharing the same external diameter and joined seamlessly. This new device retains the same characteristics of the successful catheter having an internally reinforced lumen and a total of 40 laser drilled fenestrations along its infusion segment.

Its unique design allows the surgeon to draw the catheter subcutaneously from within most wound cavities and outwards, substantially reducing the risk of infection as posed by the peel-away introducer needle approach.

Once in position, the catheter is separated from the needle by a simple scissor cut and joined to the pump’s administration line using a standard luer twist connector.
