Description
The Pain Relief System provides a continuous infusion of a local anaesthetic directly into the surgical site for the management of postoperative pain.
It consists of an elastomeric pump with an administration line connected directly to a special infusion catheter. There is a choice of 4 flow rates: 2, 3, 4 or 5ml per hour. Intended for single patient use.
DO NOT REUSE
For safety reasons, the pump and catheter are designed to be uniquely compatible and can not be interchanged with other products or systems.
Changing the infusion rate
Any modifications to the infusion rate must be made by duly qualified personnel.
The switch handle should only be entrusted to such persons.
1. Close the clamp. Check that the infusion line is in the centre of the clamp body. If the clamp does not lock fully onto the infusion line, the medication flow will not be stopped
.
2. Remove the Flow Rate Control Unit attached to the patient’s skin.
3. Use the switch handle to change infusion to the desired flow rate. Ensure the ▲-mark is precisely aligned to the desired rate.

4. OPEN THE CLAMP. Roll tubing between fingers to promote flow if clamped for extended time.
5. Use adhesive tape, etc., to re-attach the unit securely to the patient’s skin.
6. Sign the drug infusion label accordingly
Removing the catheter
1. Remove dressing from the catheter site.
2. Grasp catheter close to skin and gently slide it from skin. Do not cut or pull hard to remove catheter.
3. Place bandage over the catheter insertion site.
Daily Use
• Use the carrying pouch for convenience and to protect the pump from damage during daily activities. The pouch can be worn around the waist or over the shoulder.
• Use the supplied Patient Guidelines booklet for patient education.
• To monitor medication delivery, check the position of the blue ring inside the pump against the scale on the protector. The piston moves very slowly, so re-check in a few hours.
• During use make sure:
- the pump is emptying and the catheter and tubing are not kinked.
- all connections are secure and there is no leakage from the connections.
• Avoid getting alcohol based detergents (incl. soap) on the filter which could damage its hydrophobic property and could lead to leakage.
does not require periodic maintenance.
Dispose of according to local protocols.
